Lift One Lodge Project Gets Council Nod: Yes, , ADN

The Lift One Lodge approval comes five years after the project was originally submitted. The developers — Roaring Fork Mountain Lodge-Aspen, LLC, controlled by Jim Chaffin and Jim Light — participated in the 2008 Lift One Neighborhood Master Plan with the owners of a site across the street once planned for the now defunct Lodge at Aspen Mountain. Council voted down a plan that would have allowed both hotels in early 2009.

ASPEN REAL ESTATE - Aspen City Council approved a new hotel project Monday night, passing the Lift One Lodge on a 4-0 vote. The project will bring 22 timeshare units — which can be broken up into 84 separate rental rooms — and five free-market condos in two separate buildings totaling 77,000 square feet to South Aspen Street near Lift 1A. The project also includes dorm-style affordable housing for 16 hotel employees in the former Skier’s Chalet Steakhouse building and a ski museum run by the Aspen Historical Society in the former Skier’s Chalet Lodge building. There also will be a restaurant. The project maintains a ski corridor through the two main buildings and also has an underground parking garage.

The Lift One area and proposed development. The former proposed Lodge at Aspen Mtn site  is now slated for approx. 13 townhomes. Across the street, up LIft 1A hill - or south, the Lift One lodge has just been approved. Below it, there will be a ski museum, park and pedestrian (and perhaps ski) corridor. Lift 1A, once a single ride charilift to the top of Little Annies ski run, is one of the two original Aspen Mountain chairlifts.
