Aspen City Council To Review Zoning And Land Use Code Today, ADN
Community Development department considers the potential initial involvment of City Council in the development review process to be a key factor in streamlining approvals.
ASPEN REAL ESTATE - The direction Aspen City Council aims to take in revising local development rules could be established at a public meeting today. Council also will consider revising the process for amending the city’s land-use code at today’s 4:30 p.m. work session in City Hall. Community development department officials are proposing to tweak the system to give City Council more say in the initial direction of land-use code changes, instead of leaving it to the appointed Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z) to have first review .... On two occasions, council denied approvals for code-complying projects, relying on subjective statements about maintaining neighborhood character contained in the previous version of the AACP. Those denials led to two lawsuits, both of which were settled by the city, allowing some version of the developments to go forward.
