The Ball is in Pitkin County's Court on Leslie Wexner Land Swap, ADN

Though Pitkin County’s board has not endorsed it, they voted unanimously in January for an alternative proposal that would have made the acreage in the swap nearly equal. Thus far, the county commissioners and their open space board have not been able to stomach taking more than 1,200 acres of their public land and making it private.

ASPEN PITKIN COUNTY REAL ESTATE - The Pitkin County commissioners will meet behind closed doors Tuesday for the twelfth time in less than a year to discuss their next steps in a controversial proposed midvalley land swap.Since January of last year, Leslie Wexner and his attorneys have been petitioning the Pitkin County commissioners to endorse the exchange, which requires an act by U.S. Congress for approval. Wexner wants to trade his undeveloped 520-acre Sutey Ranch, in Garfield County, for 1,268 acres of federal Bureau of Land Management property in Pitkin County. Wexner controls Limited Brands, whose stores include Victoria’s Secret and Bath & Body Works. The BLM land splits sections of his existing 3,944-acre estate, known as “Two Shoes.” The swap would make the ranch one contiguous area, on the north flanks of Mount Sopris.
