Pitkin County Takes Another Step to Droste Purchase, ADN

"The Droste property as open space will have huge benefits for both the local elk herd, which migrates seasonally across the land, and for local recreationalists, who he feels can use the land for hiking, biking and horseback riding in the summer, when most of the elk are in the high country." says Pitkin County Open Space and Trails Director Dale Will.

ASPEN PITKIN COUNTY REAL ESTATE - As expected, the Pitkin County commissioners on Wednesday finalized a $500,000 contract to buy 108 acres of the Droste property on the ridge between Brush Creek and Owl Creek for open space purposes. The contract is the first of a three-part agreement for the county to purchase a total of 742 acres from the Droste family for $18 million.“The value of this project is of a magnitude that I can’t fully describe,” Commissioner Rachel Richards said Wednesday, while praising the deal for its importance in protecting the Burnt Mountain elk herd.The first phase of the Droste deal is on schedule for a Sept. 18 closing.
