I learned to ski before I could walk, went to elementary school at the Yellow Brick in Aspen's West End and was an original member and founding Director of the Tenth Mountain Hut & Trail System* between Aspen and Vail with one of Aspen’s legends, my friend and mentor, Fritz Benedict. Fritz was Aspen's noted architect for whom the Aspen Music Festival Benedict Tent is named; I was his firms architect's apprentice in high school. My Dad was the founding Director of Ski School at Sugarbush, VT and in Portillo, Chile and wrote "Ski the American Way" considered a ski teaching classic.
…Aspen real estate and skiing are in my bones.
Since 2005, I've contributed articles and comments on local and regional real estate issues in the Mountain Business Journal, Aspen Times, Aspen Daily News, Aspen Magazine, Colorado Public Radio and others. This information and my weekly blog, "Aspen Real Estate Post" (Tim Estin's Blog), form the basis of The Estin Report which is updated regularly at www.EstinAspen.com . The writing and the research make me a better real estate broker...it keeps it interesting for me, makes me a more informed negotiator and expert, raises the bar for client broker expectations ...improves the REALTOR breed, I humbly believe.
From 2005 - 2007, I served as the Aspen Board of Realtor's Liaison to the City of Aspen. Before this, I was the Aspen Board of Realtor's Liaison for the extensive 2006 Pitkin County Land Use Code (LUC) Rewrite approved in July 2006 after a two year review that began in 2004. I also served as a member of the Pitkin County Land Use Code/Technical Advisory Committee advising the Planning & Zoning Commission and the Pitkin County Board of Commissioners on land use issues. These volunteer positions have involved communicating policy, political issues, code changes, and their consequences to property buyers and sellers and to the Aspen real estate community.
In the 1980's, I worked for the mountain resort planning & consulting firm Sno-engineering, Inc
then based out of Aspen and Lyme, NH as their market analyst. The work: financial and economic analysis creating market research reports, resort break-even analysis and ski industry studies amongst others. My boss, the great Bill Kane (former Aspen & Pitkin County Planning Director and Sr VP Planning Aspen Ski Corp.), is now the Basalt Town Manager.
In non-work hours, I've participated in The Buddy Program (an Aspen School District mentoring program), the International Design Conference/Aspen, the Aspen Institute Ideas Festival and local performing arts organizations. For the Aspen Community Theatre, I played Capt.Von Trapp in The Sound of Music and King Arthur in Camelot, and have acted in numerous leading roles at Theatre Aspen, Snowmass Repertory and Aspen's famous musical review at The Crystal Palace. I've also been in over (40) national network TV commercials as a principal actor.

*One of the great outcomes as a Founding Director of the Tenth
Mountain Hut and Trail system was the opportunity for my family to
build the Peter Estin Hut in memory of my Dad . He was a former FIS
racer, Dartmouth ski team captain, and founding Ski School Director at Sugarbush,
Vt and Portillo, Chile. In the early 60’s, he wrote, “Ski the American Way”
considered a ski teaching classic. He was also a New Yorker magazine
cartoonist. (See: http://www.huts.org/hut_details/peter_estin_hut_details.html). My sister and her family, Heidi & Paul Wade (both Aspen Mtn Ski instructors) and daughters Kelly (Marketing Director/ www.heidihat.com ) and Ali (Aspen Mtn Ski Patrol and Freestyle Kayak Champion) grew up and live here as well.
