ASPEN REAL ESTATE – Aspen’s Silver Lining Ranch, which for years operated as a retreat for terminally ill children, was quietly sold to a private owner for $10.5 million recently.Pitkin County records show that John and Elizabeth Burgess of London bought the Stillwater Ranch property (next to the Aspen Club and Spa – editor) on July 29 from the Little Star Foundation, a nonprofit run by former tennis star Andrea Jaeger. The sale came two weeks after Aspen City Council approved converting the ranch to a single-family residential parcel. The 6.5-acre property at the end of Ute Avenue includes one 18,000-square-foot building, and is valued at $13.7 million, according to the Pitkin County assessor.Jaeger sought the rezoning and sale for the cash infusion it would bring to her foundation, which is reportedly on the brink of bankruptcy. Little Star moved to Hesperus, Colo. near Durango in 2006, citing the higher costs of doing business in Aspen, and Aspen’s high altitude being hard on some of the ill children.
