ASPEN – With $28 million for new facilities still coming in, and following its most successful summer ever in terms of attendance, the Aspen Art Museum is still in the real estate market for something. It’s just not sure what out there is feasible, said museum director Heidi Zuckerman Jacobson. In the May election, a question that would have allowed the city of Aspen to sell its former youth center property to the museum was defeated by a 62 to 38 percent margin. The museum was planning a 30,000-square-foot facility for the site on Galena Plaza east of the Pitkin County Library. “We would still like to bring a new and expanded art museum to the Aspen community if possible,” she said. “To be honest, we’re still in the exploratory phase. Our research is ongoing.”
