The average value of all Aspen building permits rose from $90.3M to $124.2M, or 37%, from Jan 1- June 27, 2014 compared to the same period last year. The actual number of permits and land use reviews is up 3% this year, from 862 to 892. Building activity has increased steadily since 2009 when the Great Recession hit. Last year, the value of permits was $203.5M, up 27% from 2012 numbers. 2007 was the record year with $371.6M of construction activity in the City ansd 2,077 building permits issued. In 2008, the value of permits was $200M through late May that year whereas in May 2014, it was approximately $80.4M
