Concluding that there were too many uncertainties in the Related Companies’ current planning for the Snowmass Base Village, the Ski Co has withdrawn its application for a new mid-market Limelight Hotel at the resort. Much fanfare had been made this winter on the Ski Co’s request for an expedited Town of Snowmass review of its plans for a SMV LImelight (there already exists an Aspen Ski Co owned Aspen Limelight Hotel). It now appears plans are off the table.

In 2005-2006, the Aspen Ski Co had planned an exclusive high end Snowmass Village Hotel Little Nell to be located at the Building 5 location, now an empty slab in the middle of the resort’s village. After the Great Recession and the Related Co’s repurchase of the Snowmass Base Village in a nationalized German bank foreclosure sale, the re-instituted sales program for the Viceroy Condo Hotel units took off in winter 2012/2013. Bouyed by thesepositive results and improving market conditions, the Ski Co considered new options in Dec. 2013 and, concluding a lack of mid-market hotel product in Snowmass, innitiated planning for the expedited development of a Snowmass Limelight Hotel to break ground summer 2014. It now appears they have reconsidered given Related Co’s unknown expansion plans – other than Viceroy Phase II – for the Village. (Photo credit: AspenJournalism.org )
