ASPEN REAL ESTATE – The city of Aspen has been sending out notices to contractors that all inactive permits will expire on June 30. There have been two extension periods granted in the past two years, in January 2009 and again in 2010, due to the challenging economic times according to city officials.
The city community development department issued a “group extension” both times which was applicable to all permit holders. Roughly 67 permits were granted up to a 30-month extension, which is longer than rules allow. Normally a permit is valid for only six months since the time of issuance.Since the extension, some of the projects moved forward, but about 61 permits are still inactive.
