The Aspen Valley Medical Foundation (AVMF) had hoped to acquire the Moore property for the future site of a “continuing care retirement facility,” providing housing and health care services to Aspen’s seniors. The AVMF in August proposed a $12 million deal to Thomas Moore, co-owner of the property, said executive director Kris Marsh but it already was under contract at the time.

ASPEN REAL ESTATE – Members of the Crown family of Chicago have purchased the 42-acre Moore parcel for $13 million. The property, located off Maroon Creek Road between the Aspen Recreation Center and the Moore Open Space, is one of the last remaining large parcels in the Aspen area with development potential. The property, previously home to a member of the Moore family, one of the valley’s old ranching families, is accessed from an unmarked road at the crux of the curve across from the high school football field on lower Maroon Creek Road and contains one home built into a hill. It’s located in Pitkin County. The Crowns, owners of the Aspen Skiing Co. with business interests including hotels, sports teams and pieces of investment banking firm JPMorgan Chase and defense contractor General Dynamics, closed on the property Nov. 22 using the name S&J Investments, LLC, according to documents on file at the Pitkin County Clerk and Recorder’s Office.
