There have been more turnovers, remodels and new openings in Aspen’s restaurant sector this year than in the last five years, according to city of Aspen officials who regulate restaurants.“Despite the down economy, the environmental health department has performed more restaurant plan reviews in 2009 than any other time in the last five years,” according to a memo from environmental health director Lee Cassin. “We are currently looking at having four to five new restaurant openings prior to the end of the year and have completed 12 plan reviews so far in 2009. These numbers are a significant increase over the past several years and represent an encouraging sign about the vibrant restaurant scene in Aspen.”
