PitCo waives deadlines for $97M worth of expiring building permits…The commissioners agreed that it was ultimately better for the community to extend the deadline for all permits, regardless of the size of the project.“I think we all understand that the community at large, on multiple levels, is having a tough time and this is a way to help out,” said Commissioner Jack Hatfield. “But I’m really hoping this is a one-time thing.”

ASPEN REAL ESTATE – The Pitkin County commissioners have approved an extension until Aug. 31, 2011 for 58 building permits valued at approximately $97 million that either have expired or are going to expire sometime in 2010.“The issue is due to the current economic constraints that a lot of builders, owners and developers are finding themselves in,” Pitkin County assistant community development director Lance Clarke told the commissioners Wednesday.Permits can expire if they fail to meet different sets of 12 or six-month deadlines that are in place throughout the approval and construction phases of a project.
