ASPEN REAL ESTATE – The Pitkin County commissioners on Wednesday initially approved a resolution to spend $500,000 on the first phase of an $18 million deal to buy 742 acres of land from the Droste family for open space.The second and final reading of the resolution is set for Aug. 25. … In all, the county anticipates spending about $10 million in county open space funds on the Droste property, making it the largest purchase to date of the county’s 20-year-old open space program.The county also has gotten a pledge of at least $1 million from the city of Aspen and $2 million from the town of Snowmass Village toward the acquisition. County officials submitted a $2.5 million funding proposal to Great Outdoors Colorado, and it hopes to raise additional money from private donors, including residents in the Owl Creek and Brush Creek valleys.
