ASPEN – Real estate sales in Pitkin County* took the biggest tumble of the year in August, when compared to the same month the prior year, according to a report from Land Title Guarantee Company.About $57 million worth of real estate changed hands during the last month of the summer, compared to $160.5 million in August 2008, a 65 percent decrease. Sales were also down 55 percent from July’s total of $126.6 million, although that month included a $43 million sale.The number of transactions in August, 44, was very consistent with the figures of the last six months. That total is down exactly one-third from last August, when there were 66 transactions.Total sales volume in Pitkin County so far this year is $655 million in 418 transactions, which is down 35 percent in dollar volume and 29 percent in number from the same time period in 2008.
