Of the project’s four phases, the second is by far the largest. ASPEN REAL ESTATE — Plans for the third phase of Aspen Valley Hospital’s massive expansion project in August were submitted to the city’s Community Development Department.The third stage primarily involves a two-story addition, with basement space, on the west side of the existing hospital building. The work involves 19,183 square feet of renovated space and 74,440 square feet of new space, according to the development application filed in August.Project details face review by the city Planning and Zoning Commission and Aspen City Council, which in 2009 gave all four phases of the project conceptual approval. said Wednesday that he wasn’t sure when the project would wind through the public-review process. “Because of the conceptual review, the City Council understands the entire scope of the project,” Aspen attorney Gideon Kaufman, a member of the project team, said “Much more detail will be provided when we go to them for final approval of Phase III.”
