The head of Aspen’s central reservations agency said Tuesday morning that he has been in touch with airline representatives hoping to bring international flights directly into the Eagle County Airport, near Vail. It would most likely service flights from Mexico and Central and South America. Though he said he couldn’t quantify exactly how many of Aspen’s resort guests typically fly in through Vail, Tomcich said it is “a significant number” and that the international expansion would be a boon to the local tourism trade.
