Just about every time the Pitkin County commissioners have heard complaints from citizens this spring about recent high valuations of county property — and the high tax bills they anticipate — the commissioners have directed citizens to talk directly to the boards of local special taxing districts.For example, when Peter Gina of the East Sopris Creek neighborhood stood up to voice his concerns during a recent commissioners’ meeting, he was referred right back to the districts…There are over 25 special districts that levy taxes in Pitkin County and some districts, and governments, that have multiple mill levies.
