Willits Town Center in ‘new’ Basalt was rescued during the recession by Mariner who purchased the development in foreclosure after the initial developer Joseph Freed & Associates from Chicago lost control of the project to banks in the spring of 2011. Mariner subsequently completed the anchor tenant’s building, Whole Foods Market, in early summer 2012 and Whole Foods opened in early August bring new life and vitality to this annexed newer portion of Basalt, a few miles from historic old town Basalt..

BASALT MID-VALLEY REAL ESTATE – The owner of Willits Town Center, Mariner Real Estate Management, announced that they will break ground as soon as next week on a new 60,000 sq ft plus building known as Block 6 located to the south of the Whole Foods parking lot. They are currently in the process of finishing out the newest Parkside Building, a 9,500 sq ft structure reputedly to house a “coffee house” speculated to be Starbucks with a drive-through window, a yogurt shop, possibly a real estate firm and another business. The development has been approved for a total 500,000 sq ft mixed-use and residential build-out of which only a fraction has been built.
