The Windstar Foundation sold its 957 acres of Old Snowmass property for $8.5M in April. But the sale has continued to generate controversy. Some people contend that the sale violates the mission of the foundation founded by singer John Denver in the late 1970’s for preservation, education and care of the land as open space and a wildlife sanctuary. The sale did not include a stipulation for public parking and even thought only 30 acres of the entire parcel is developable for a single family home, there is no guarantee that the new owners will accomodate parking within that acreage.
