June 9, 2014 United’s Summer Flight Schedules Resume Today

June 11, United expanded to their full summer flight schedules at the Aspen / Pitkin County Airport (ASE), including the resumption of daily seasonal nonstop flights from Houston (IAH) and Chicago/O’hare (ORD). Nonstop flights from LAX have been operating five days per week since May 8. Then beginning next Wednesday, June 11, American returns with their daily seasonal nonstop flights from both Los Angeles (LAX) and Dallas/Ft. Worth (DFW). All told, we are scheduled to have a minimum of 14 flights daily this summer with as many as 18 on Sundays thanks to some extra nonstop sections now scheduled by United from Chicago/O’Hare on select weekends later this summer.

While the vast majority of these flights will continue to be operated by either SkyWest or Envoy (formerly American Eagle) utilizing the Bombardier CRJ700 regional jet, what is new today is the reintroduction of the Bombardier Q400 into ASE for select United Express trips between Denver and Aspen. As accurately reported today by both local newspapers, Republic Airlines is now scheduled to operate up to three of United’s nine daily trips from Denver this summer. The vast majority of these aircraft are configured for a total of 71 seats including 7 first class seats and 10 in Economy Plus. Pasted below is a photo of the aircraft used for this morning’s initial arrival at ASE of a Republic Q400 operating as United Express, which happened to arrive 16 minutes early. As a matter of coincidence, this particular aircraft (tail # N508LX) is in fact one of the exact same aircraft that were once acquired by Lynx for Frontier Airlines, so this particular aircraft has indeed landed at ASE many times before, as has the flight crew operating it I am told.

In terms of total capacity, this summer’s overall capacity pretty much mirrors that which was offered last summer with some minor tweaking and fine-tuning along with a continuation of more of our nonstop flights deeper into next Fall. Outlined below is the schedule frequency currently planned by market effective today.
